Frequently asked questions

Getting started

Farhaven is a travel safety app. It brings together official travel advisories, entry requirements for your passport, natural hazard and disease outbreak alerts, local weather, embassy contacts and emergency numbers, so you can check a destination before and during your trip.

No. Farhaven works without an account or sign-in. Your trips, emergency contacts, checklists and settings are stored on your phone only.

Farhaven is available now on iPhone from the App Store and on Android from Google Play.

Travel advisories

Directly from the US State Department and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). Farhaven is not affiliated with either government.

Each government assesses risk independently, so their advice can differ. The US uses numbered levels (1–4). The FCDO doesn't use numbered levels, so the UK level shown in Farhaven is our interpretation of the FCDO's wording. Always read the original advice using the Verify link.

Farhaven checks official sources regularly and shows when each advisory was last checked, along with the date the government last changed it. If our copy hasn't been refreshed recently, you'll see a warning. Always confirm with the official source before you travel.

Governments often advise against travel to specific regions rather than a whole country. Farhaven lists these regional risks separately on the country's advisory page.

Visas and entry requirements

Entry requirements are based on the passport nationality you set in Settings. If you haven't set one, you'll see "Set your passport" instead.

Go to Settings and update your passport. Entry requirements on the map and in Visa & entry will update automatically.

No. Visa and entry information is general guidance only and rules change often. Always confirm with the destination's official government website or embassy before you travel.

Alerts and safety

Natural hazards come from sources including USGS (earthquakes) and GDACS (cyclones, floods, wildfires and more). Disease outbreak information comes from the WHO and CDC. Alerts can be delayed or incomplete, and no alert doesn't mean an area is safe.

SOS opens a message with your location for you to send to the contacts you choose. It also shows the local emergency number. Farhaven is not an emergency service and does not contact emergency services for you. In an emergency, call local emergency services directly.

Partly. If you lose your connection, Farhaven shows the most recent information it has, labelled as last known. Some features, like new visa lookups, need a connection.

Privacy

No. You can choose any country manually. If you do allow location, it's rounded to about 1 km before it leaves your phone and is used only to show relevant local information.

No. Farhaven has no ads at launch, no analytics, no tracking and no accounts. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
